Orion Tulchin

Growing up in the foothills of Colorado my passion for the outdoors began at an early age. My interest in fitness stemmed from my active childhood which would lead me to starting strength training at the age of 13. At the time I would have never guessed that I was embarking on a life long journey that would eventually lead to owning a gym and helping more then 1000 people regain their health and fitness.

At 27 I started my professional career as a personal trainer at a big-box gym. Working my way through the ranks I grew incredibly disenfranchised with the “churn-and-burn, get no results” corporate gym business model. I desperately needed a change……

Inspired by the underground movements of training programs like CrossFit and Gym Jones, I was instantly drawn to their minimalist approach to functional fitness. I quickly realized my salvation was to start my own gym and in 2009 I opened CrossFit Lakewood and haven’t look back since.

Being healthy and fit takes a tremendous amount of hard work. If you believe in yourself and dedicate your time and energy to the program any goal is achievable!

I’m a native to Colorado and lover of the outdoors. I love to hike, bike, camp, snowboard and exercise with my dog Oscar!
Coaching fitness has been my career for over a decade now. I’ve built my life around helping the average Joe/Jane discover their very own “golden mean” (or perfect balance) of how to accomplish goals and “find their fitness,” a phrase that is widely relative to every person I’ve ever spent time with. I been around long enough to have seen a lot of the ups and downs, the rises and falls, the crashes, the fads, the booms and the busts of the fitness industry.

I spent the first 6 years of my career working at and managing globo-gyms and their teams. I saw so many of my clients, members and employees hopping on and off bandwagon after bandwagon, sometimes with good results, many times with bad. It felt impossible to coach someone through the reality of their situation when they were so convinced that their magic pill, their incredible machine, or their video routine was the answer to all their fitness problems. I’ve been lucky enough to get to call “CrossFit Coach” my job title for a while now, and I have yet to find a program that has combated so many of the challenges and hurdles I used to face in both my own physical endeavors, as well as being a trainer in the fitness industry.

As a coach at CrossFit Lakewood my main goal is to impart knowledge, inspire people, set an example, and keep people’s “cant’s,” “wont’s,” and “I’ll never’s” at the door. I look forward to helping you experience it!

When I found CrossFit, little did I know how much it would change my life. In 2013 when I had just left the Marine Corps after serving for four years, I finally was persuaded to try out a CrossFit box after years of working as a personal trainer and following various workout programs. I was hooked from the beginning. Nowhere else could I find an exercise program that left me wanting more even when I was laying on the floor trying to catch my breath. Nowhere else could I find an exercise program that challenged me physically and mentally, constantly pushing me to new limits. Nowhere else could I find a tribe of people like me. CrossFit has made me physically stronger, made me mentally tougher, opened my eyes to what real nutrition is, and has helped me discover my next career path by working towards a master’s degree in Sports and Performance Psychology here in Denver.

I became a CrossFit Coach because after seeing first-hand what CrossFit has done in my life, I want others to experience the same thing.

Throughout my life, I have strived for physical excellence. I have excelled as a Competitve Sprinter,  UCA Collegiate Cheerleader, UDA Dancer, Hunter Jumper/Saddle Bred Horse Showman, Marathon/Adventure racer, as well as a CrossFit Athlete and Coach. After maintaining two degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill and Queens University of Charlotte, and continuing my master’s education at FUA in Florence, Italy, I decided to utilize my countless years of being a trainee to pursue my passion in helping others maintain a healthy and balanced physical lifestyle.

Since 2010, I have pursued personal training by obtaining my CPT, USAW-Sports Performance Coach certification, CF-L2 and an official recognition as a Specialist in Exercise Therapy, to help aid those with physical and mental ailments. Opening my own business, Warrior Within Fitness, in 2015, I work closely with medical professionals to help implement proper foundation building, movement and strengthening strategies to ensure optimum training for each warrior. To further my education in myo-fascial manipulation, I obtained my RockTape Blades (IASTM), Basic and Performance Certifications to help educate neurological stimulation and taping modalities to enhance stronger movement patterns. In 2017 I took my love and training of the kettlebell and became a StrongFirst Giyra L-1 Instructor. By using functional methods and strengthening techniques, I strive to teach proper exercise form and function to assure physical excellence for all individuals.

Growing up in Florida in my early years I was always busy. I grew up playing baseball as well as always being outdoors. Whether that was riding dirt bikes, fishing, or just getting dirty. In 2004 my family moved to North Carolina, where I attended high school and college. Graduating in 2012 at Wingate University with a BS in Sport Management, I ended up following a different path after college. From 2012-2018, I spent my days working in a brewery. However, even after 10 hour-shift days, I was always in the gym for a few hours after work. That gym was a CrossFit gym. I fell in love with CrossFit and all the benefits of its programming since day one. Over the years I battled the though of coaching. I enjoy helping and giving back to people. Watching people meet their true potential, and having even just a small part in that, is truly one of the best feelings in the world. Being able to see smiles on people’s faces for accomplishing something that seemed out of reach brings some much joy to my heart. That is why I have changed my career and have become a CrossFit coach.

It doesn’t just stop there. I am continuing my education and knowledge within the fitness and coaching community with nutrition, weightlifting and CrossFit programs and seminars. I enjoy learning, but mostly because I’ll be able to share that information with others.
